Hey groovers,
Summer is here, and we are so stoked for all the artists coming in June.
Start this week off with some classic hip hop and South African sounds brought to you by Sampa the Great at Irving Plaza on Tuesday. Then we’ve got the legendary psychedelic rock band, The Flaming Lips, celebrating their first RIAA certified Gold Record, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot, at Kings Theatre on Thursday. Thursday also kicks off three nights of Boston-bred funk band, Lettuce, at Blue Note Jazz Club. This weekend, be sure to catch our friends, Locations, at Alphaville on Friday.
June is pride month, and there’s a ton of great shows celebrating, including Planet Pride Festival, with Gorgon City, Gareth Emery and Coco & Breezy, at Brooklyn Mirage, or Dreamland: Pride in Central Park with Purple Disco Machine.
June also marks the beginning of SummerStage, the seasonal outdoor venue in Central Park. On Saturday, we’re catching the epic eight-piece soul band, St. Paul and the Broken Bones with female-led, seven-piece band, Say She She, supporting. Check out our recap of their last show in NYC for a preview ;). Later this month, catch the eight-piece collective, Sammy Rae & the Friends, mixing jazz, funk, folk and rock. Enter our giveaway to win free tix. And later this month, we’ve got the Grammy-nominated music group, Tank and the Bangas, celebrated for their blend of R&B, soul, funk, hip hop and rock.
